Aveda Nutriplenish Light or Deep Moisture? (How to Choose for Dry Fall Air in Austin)
Austin finally got its first real taste of fall last week. The cold front that moved through overnight into Friday, October 16, dropped mornings into the 40s and 50s and brought dry air and gusty wind along with it.
If your hair suddenly feels rough, tangles more easily and has lost its shine, that dry air is part of the story. Aveda's Nutriplenish collection is made for dry hair, and it comes in two strengths. Here is how to choose between Light Moisture and Deep Moisture, and where the leave in fits.
Dry fall air after a long summer leaves hair rough, dull and tangled
Months of sun, pool water and hot tools wear on hair all summer. Then the humidity drops, and ends that coasted through August start to feel dry and brittle.
Our service menu describes that hair plainly: dry and brittle, short on shine and softness, quick to tangle and rough to the touch. If that sounds like your hair this week, Nutriplenish is the line to look at.
Every Nutriplenish formula is built on what Aveda calls a superfood complex of pomegranate seed oil, certified organic coconut oil and mango butter. Aveda says the blend replenishes lipids, raises moisture levels inside the hair shaft and leaves an invisible barrier on the cuticle to seal that moisture in. The difference between Light and Deep comes down to how much richness your hair can carry.
Light Moisture is made for fine to medium hair
If your hair goes flat the moment you add anything rich, start here. Aveda makes Light Moisture with fast absorbing oils for fine to medium hair, from straight through wavy to loose curls (types 1A through 3A on Aveda's chart). Find your type on the chart below.
Types 2A through 3A sit in both ranges. Let thickness decide. Fine strands do best with Light. Thick strands do best with Deep.
Based on the 1A to 4C curl chart Aveda uses for Nutriplenish.
Aveda Nutriplenish Shampoo Light Moisture
Aveda describes this as a creamy, lightweight shampoo that cleanses dry hair without stripping it and leaves it softer. It carries the pomegranate, coconut and mango butter complex and is safe for color treated and chemically processed hair.
Aveda Nutriplenish Treatment Masque Light Moisture
A lightweight gel cream masque you use once a week in place of conditioner. Smooth it through damp hair from roots to ends after the Light Moisture shampoo, leave it on for two to five minutes, then rinse well. In Aveda's testing, 97% of users said their hair felt manageable and 95% said it felt softer.
Deep Moisture has 50% more butters for medium to thick hair
Thick, coarse, curly and coily hair often soaks up a light formula and still feels dry an hour later. Aveda made the Deep Moisture collection with 50% more butters than Light Moisture, for medium to thick hair of every texture. The shampoo is suited to types 2A through 4C. That is the dark bar on the chart above.
Aveda Nutriplenish Shampoo Deep Moisture
A rich shampoo Aveda makes to cleanse deeply and replenish dry hair with hydration, without stripping it. Pomegranate seed oil, certified organic coconut oil and mango butter help soften, and it is safe for color treated and chemically processed hair.
Aveda Nutriplenish Treatment Masque Deep Moisture
A rich cream masque for medium to thick hair. Once a week, after the Deep Moisture shampoo, use it in place of conditioner: apply to damp hair from roots to ends, leave it on for two to five minutes and rinse. Aveda says it gives four times more hydration and adds instant shine.
The Nutriplenish leave in works on every hair type, light or deep
Whichever shampoo you choose, the leave in sits on top of it. It is a spray for wet or dry hair, and it belongs in your routine before every blow dry.
Aveda Nutriplenish Leave In Conditioner
Aveda formulated this no rinse spray with sand ginger and organic pomegranate oil to replenish, detangle and protect dry hair of every type. It guards against heat up to 450°F, includes a naturally derived UV filter, and Aveda says it keeps hair hydrated for 72 hours. You can also use it as a treatment before you shampoo.
For a bigger reset after summer, add our Nutriplenish Hydration treatment to your next visit. It is built for dry, brittle hair that has lost its shine and softness. While you are in the chair, your stylist can feel your hair and tell you whether Light or Deep makes more sense to take home.
