What's Happening for Fall

By: Leigh Ellington

Here in Austin it seems like Fall is a million years away but that doesn't mean you can't start dreaming about Fall fashion!  This time of year is my favorite.  I have always loved the Fall staples like boots, tights, scarves, and jackets.   While jackets and scarves might still be months away I am here to give you a few of the hot trends for Fall so when it finally gets here (fingers crossed) you are ready!

-A Rich Color Palette- This season the colors were rich and dramatic with a lot of bold reds, emerald greens, deep blues and navy.  Burgundy shows up all over the runway this Fall adorning not only clothing but also lips and hair.  Another color I see popping up a lot is winter white.  The fun spunky neon shades of Spring take a hiatus and in return we get a more mature and elegant color palette.

-Military- Military inspired looks made a huge splash last Fall and they are back again this year. The trend this season goes beyond the military jacket and pops up as unexpected little details such as brass buttons, flap pockets, and shoulder epaulettes.  A military jacket is the perfect accessory for those warmer winter days here in Austin!

-Over-sized Coats- This trend was a hot runway staple.  I must admit this one is a little harder for me to get excited about.  Fall's coats are roomier with bold lines.  Cropped, fitted coats will definitely take a backseat to a more over sized silhouette.  If this trend scares you try a pea coat in navy blue or the military themed coat I mentioned above.

-Leather- I have always loved leather, ever since I found an old Polaroid of my mom dressed as a rather convincing biker chick.  The look just screams cool!  Leather comes in all shapes for fall from the traditional leather jacket to leather pants and skirts.  Try the look in an unexpected way by pairing it with feminine details to go from rocker chick to super chic!

-Peplum- This hot fall trend is super cute and easy to wear.  Peplum is making an appearance on skirts, dresses and shirts and adds a fun flirtatious vibe to any outfit.  Another great thing about peplum is it instantly  hides any problem areas around your midsection!  Score!

-Printed Pants- Legs finally get some much deserved attention this Fall with all the printed leggings and denim.  Florals and tribal prints seem to be the most popular renditions of this trend but there are hundreds of fun prints to choose from!  Not daring enough to wear an all over floral jean?  Try a cute pair of jeans with polka dots!

Hair and Make-up

-Bobs- The short pixie cuts that dominated the fashion world last year are grown out and more classic this Fall.  A bob can be a flattering hairstyle for any face shape!  Ask your stylist what style of bob would look great on you.

-Reds- Its no coincidence that Aveda just launched a new ad campaign centered around vibrant red hair.  Much like burgundy is a hot color for fall clothes it is also a hot color for hair and lips.  Try a sultry red shade next time your in the salon!  Ask you hair stylist which shade would look best on you!

-Bordeaux- Bordeaux is the new hot lip color.  This deep red is everywhere I look!  This color is bold so keep the rest of the face simple and natural.

-Braids- Blame it on Katniss but braids are still hot!  If you are sporting a longer style this Fall but still want to look trendy braid your hair in to a long braid or incorporate a braid into a bun for a more elegant look.
