Are you using your paddle brush correctly?

I promise this won't be a waste of your time, especially if you love your locks and want to keep them as healthy and unbroken as possible.
Go grab your paddle brush - see the photo above if you're not sure what it looks like. Take a look at the plastic bristles. Notice that if you hold the brush vertically the bristles are neatly lined up in a row. Now hold the brush horizontally and you'll see that the bristles are staggered. Why does this matter? If your are brushing to detangle your hair you want to use the brush vertically. Start at the ends of your hair and work your way up. Because the bristles form a straight line, they will slip through your hair with minimal tension and you will have fewer tangles and less breakage. (Remember: hair is more fragile when wet!)Now, if you are using the brush while blow drying for a smooth finish, you want to use it horizontally. Because the bristles are staggered they will create tension, which in turn will tug the hair straight while you are blow drying. Who knew that brushes should have directions on them? Hope this helps save your strands.
P.S. Please forward these directions to any mother you know that has children with long hair. You will become her new hero.
