Your guide to changing your hairstyle for fall 2010

Pixie cuts in jet black and platinum. One of the hottest cuts and two of the hottest colors for fall 2010.

The change of seasons is the best time of year to update your look. Whether you want to change your cut, color or style, there is a new and stylish hair solution for everyone. Use this guide to choose your own fall hair update:

To update your cut…

Choose a short, pixie cut as seen on actresses such as Emma Watson, Ginnifer Goodwin and Carey Mulligan. Fringe bangs hitting just above the brow will flatter any face shape with this short style. This style will help to enhance your eyes. If you decide to go with this look, check out fall make-up trends to see how to get this season’s smokey eye. Bobs have changed and fall 2010 bobs are shoulder length with shorter and heavier bangs, resembling those of the 1960s. Celebrities sporting this version of the bob are Miranda Kerr and Katy Perry.

To update your color…

Go platinum or jet black. Both colors are popping up everywhere in fashion and are setting the trends for the upcoming season. If you decide to go with a pixie cut, consider dyeing hair black. Platinum hair should look dyed and, if desired, almost white. Remember when choosing a blonde hue to consider your skin tone. Both colors are edgy and extreme. If you’re not ready to commit to black or platinum but are still looking for new ways to change your color, try chocolate brown or golden blonde.

To update your style…

Choose a style from the past. Actresses such as Brigitte Bardot and Jean Harlow are the inspiration for hairstyles this fall. These styles include soft, messy up-dos, like those of Brigitte Bardot and Jean Harlow’s soft, 1950s waves. Up-dos should not be sleek but should look tousled and always big! Bardot’s soft, messy waves are also popular this season. Jean Harlow’s soft, 1950s waves are classy and timeless. To achieve this look, make sure curls are large and sleek with a deep side part. Other fall styles popular are ponytails, side braids and Chignons and buns. Ponytails should be sleek, long and very high. Braids should not include the bangs while looking messy and unkempt. Try a fishtail braid for an updated twist. Chignons and buns are loose and messy or tight and sleek. Both ways are kept low, near the nape of the neck and are excellent options for any occasion from the workplace to nighttime.

To update your accessories…

Add fun headbands with embellishment or feathers to complete and compliment your new fall style.
