Is the thought of putting a purple pigmented shampoo over your golden blonde locks a scary thought? It shouldn’t be! Understanding why our color turns brassy and how a purple shampoo can fix it will give you the confidence to pick up your own bottle of Aveda’s Blue Malva Shampoo and Conditioner! Blue Malva shampoo and conditioner are at home hair care products that can help brighten our blondes and eliminate unwanted brassy tones, sometimes after only a single use!
A few things cause brassy tones. One way we may get brassy results is when lightening the hair. When color is removed from the hair it leaves behind yellow and red pigments. This is usually corrected at the salon by using a semi-permanent toner; semi-permanent means it will slowly fade between appointments. Brass is also caused by simply shampooing the hair. Tap water has chlorine and iron deposits that can build up a orangey or brassy tone. This also causes the color to fade and appear dull.
Lets go back to elementary art class. We know that yellow and violet are complementary colors. Complementary colors are pairs of colors that are opposite from each other on the color wheel. In color theory, two colors are called complementary if, when mixed in the proper proportion they produce a neutral color. This is why a purple shampoo is the answer to all of our prayers! The violet pigment coats the hair strand neutralizing the brassiness and restoring our color to its full glory!
Blue Malva Shampoo is a shampoo that neutralizes brassy tones in all shades of hair. It can be used daily or alternated with Aveda Color Conserve. While it gently cleanses the hair and scalp, blue malva and cornflower work together to add moisture and intensify color. Blue Malva Conditioner should be paired with the shampoo for the best results. The conditioner leaves the hair shiny, silky, and manageable. After shampooing work the conditioner through the hair leaving it on for 2-3 minutes, or until desired tone is reached.
Next time your colorist suggest you take home a bottle of the Blue Malva you will have a better understanding how this will help brighten your hair up and keep that color looking fresh. So don’t be afraid!
