  • Go PINK! DIY How-To Guide from a Professional.

As a hair colorist for MFX SoCo, I have quite a bit of freedom with my own hairstyle. I usually keep it pretty conservative, except for now and then I'll throw in some pink. It's my most sought after shade, and it fades away super fast, so when my clients ask for PINK, I usually have to tell them they'll need to come back in every few weeks to redo it, or I'll send them home with instructions to do touch-ups themselves.

  • Help! I dyed my hair at home and now it's orange!

Did you try to save some time and money by doing your own haircolor at home, and now it's a disaster? Colorists see this sort of thing all the time, and rest assured, there is a fix for that. But you'll have to go to a salon for help.

  • How Can I Extend The Life Of My Red Hair Color?

As we all know, red heads are the hardest to keep vibrant and shiny. We all love the vibrancy of the color right when we walk out of the salon, but never can maintain the look after multiple shampoo washes. There is a solution for that, if you are wanting to vamp up the tone of red in your hair and put back some richness into it we have a demi permanent hair color line which is a gloss that adds intense shine to the hair and contains a naturally derived anti-oxidant to help protect hair against ...

  • Do I really HAVE to use products in my hair?

Occasionally, our stylists will get asked to style their guest's hair without using any styling products. It may be that they feel their hair gets too “greasy” looking, or it weighs their hair down, or they just don’t like the “feel” of their hair with product in it. We asked our expert stylists to weigh in on this issue.

What Aveda Products are Vegan Friendly?

As my salon's resident vegan, I'm always the go-to person to ask when a guest is looking for vegan-friendly Aveda products. Aveda is consistently recognized by VegNews Magazine and Peta as being a cruelty-free company, and they are the only major company with a professional color line that is completely vegan and cruelty-free (not tested on animals).  Truth is, Aveda makes most of their products totally vegan, so it's easier to list the products that ARE NOT vegan.  Individual salons a...

  • Lighten Your Hair for Spring!

Warmer weather is here, and in Austin, TX we are blessed with lots of sunshine. You probably have noticed that your hair naturally gets a little lighter in the summer months just from being outside in the sun. Remember how light your hair used to get when you were a kid?

  • Street Chic - Hair Trends Spotted At SXSW 2012

Here at MFX SoCo, we have a great view for people watching. My favorite time of the year has to be the South by Southwest festival. While it may be hectic for local Austinites to battle extra traffic, parking issues, lots of crowds downtown, and long waits at restaurants, you cannot deny that SXSW makes for spectacular people watching.

  • Getting Back To Your Natural Hair Color

Maybe this is you… “I have been coloring my grays for years, and I think it’s time to let it go gray!” “I’m tired of being blonde, I want to go back to my natural brown!” “I dyed my hair black from a box at the grocery store – now what?” First of all, I highly recommend scheduling a complimentary color consultation with one of our color specialists. These appointments take under 15 minutes and can answer your questions in detail. In the meantime, I can talk a little about your options!

“Gray hair is the bane of my existence. It seems like the week after I have my hair colored the grays are already back! And why are they always the worst around my temples and forehead – right where everyone can see them the most?!” I hear this on a daily basis.

  • Should I wash my hair before I come to the salon?

I'm not trying to gross you out, but I have to admit: I love dirty hair. Ok, there is a limit to how many days you can go without shampooing, but you should NEVER* shampoo your hair before you come to the salon. Going to get your color done?
