“Gray hair is the bane of my existence. It seems like the week after I have my hair colored the grays are already back! And why are they always the worst around my temples and forehead – right where everyone can see them the most?!”
I hear this on a daily basis. As a Colorist, covering your gray is one of my main priorities. Our color team here at MFX has come up with a few ways to ensure those grays stay away as long as possible… Adding a special gray covering agent to your regular color formula, using small papers on your temples to keep the color from drying out while you process in the salon, letting your color stay on the maximum time of 45 minutes… These are all great ways to help the hair color really cover those pesky grays. But what happens when new ones start to grow in?
Here’s an idea. All me to introduce you to the 3-Week New Growth Touchup service. Did you know that now you can come to the salon every 3 weeks to touch up your new hair growth, and pay only $40. This service does not come with a blowdry, but you are welcome to blowdry your own hair using our tools and products, or you can opt to leave with damp, towel-dried hair.

Should I wash my hair before I come to the salon?

Going to get your color done? Dirty hair (second day, third day is fine) makes it easier for the colorist to place foils in your hair. The natural oils also help protect your scalp from possible irritation the color could cause. Pro Tip: Come into the salon with DRY hair – reason? It saves time for you and your colorist (who will have to blowdry your hair before you get started).
How about a haircut? When you come to the salon with your hair styled how you normally wear it, that makes it easier for the stylist to determine what haircut is right for you. Besides, why spend the time washing and drying your hair when we’re going to do it for you!
What about Updos and Curling-Iron services? It’s best to wash your hair the night before and blowdry your hair upside-down with styling products such as Phomollient and Volumizing Tonic for extra volume. Then when you come in the next day, the stylist will have a good base to work with for your fancy hairstyle!
*EXCEPTION – The only exception to my NEVER shampoo rule is chlorine. If you go swimming in a chlorinated pool the day of your color appointment, you must shampoo the chlorine out or there could be some funky results when the color reacts with the chlorine!

It’s been nearly a month now that Maximum FX has been collecting your hair scraps to send to Matter of Trust. We swept up your hair clippings, boxed them up, and shipped them to the Gulf, where they will be repurposed as “booms” and soak up the massive amount of oil from the recent spill.
