Gluten-free Aveda Products: A Guide To Healthier Living (Updated)

By: Lilla Glaeser, Director Of Human Resources

If you’re like me, living with a gluten sensitivity, it can be hard to find beauty products that are gluten-free and give you the desired results. Between 0.5 and 1.0 percent of people in the United States are sensitive to gluten due to Celiac disease**. Gluten is a protein found in grains such as wheat, barley, rye and triticale (a cross between wheat and rye). I worked for Aveda Corporation before I was diagnosed with a gluten sensitivity and used to use loads of Aveda products. Some were very good for me, but some made me break out or itch like crazy. I would like to share with you the Aveda products that are made without wheat or gluten. There are several of these that I still use to keep my skin and hair looking absolutely fabulous.

I have listed all the wheat-free and gluten-free Aveda products below and  put an * by my favorites.

Enjoy!

Hi — Aveda Dry Remedy Shampoo is NOT gluten free. It contains BARLEY EXTRACT. I was given a print out of this webpage at my local Aveda salon and bought it — and now have a itchy irritated head to show for it. (My bad — I should have looked more carefully at the ingredients). Aveda basically has no shampoos and conditioners at this point that are gluten-free and okay for colored hair (way to stay CURRENT and RESPONSIVE to your customer base, Aveda!)

  2. Thank you, Amy, for your response to my blog. Upon your response, I did more research and found that the list provided to me is wheat free not gluten free. I should have verified this list before I posted the blog, however I did not think to do so because the products I currently use are gluten free and I have not had a reaction to them. I do sincerely apologize for this mis-information. Upon further investigation of all products listed I did find many that are indeed gluten free.
