Earth Month Tip #11 – Water Your Lawn Not Your Sidewalk

Set sprinklers to water the lawn or garden only – not the street or sidewalk.   Did you know that literally thousands of gallons of water are wasted because sprinkler heads aren’t adjusted to water the lawn or garden?    This is a simple fix by adjusting the direction of water flow, or replacing your sprinkler heads with ones that are designed to water a smaller area.

In many municipal communities, you can be fined for having too much water runoff.   At the very least, you might even be charged a premium on your water bill for having too much water runoff.  Believe it or not, most cities can measure this.   Check your local water company and find out what the laws are in your community.   You just may surprised.
